Columbia, SC -
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Plans are in the works to keep Steve Spurrier on the sidelines at South Carolina for an additional season.
University President Harris Pastides and athletic director Eric Hyman will recommend a one-year contract extension for Spurrier to the school's board of trustees.
The move will keep Spurrier tied to the Gamecocks through 2013. He currently earns more than $1.75 million a season.
Any extension must be approved by the trustees.
South Carolina has a 35-27 record in Spurrier's five seasons in Columbia, and has been bowl eligible in each of those seasons. The Gamecocks (7-5) defeated rival Clemson 34-17 this past weekend and is awaiting its postseason invitation.
Hyman said the future of Gamecock football under Spurrier is bright.
