Charleston, SC - Earthquakes may not come to mind as a natural disaster concern in the Lowcountry, but as this timeline shows, they're notuncommon.
- 1886- A massive 7.5 quake killed 60 people in Charleston and remains the most devastating to date.
- 1913- Union County in the upstate gets rattled around by a 5.5 quake.
- 2002- Areas around Seabrook Island felt a 4.4 quake.
- 2005- A 2.4 rumbles across Summerville.
South Carolina has felt a total of 72 earthquakes between 1973 and 2008 according to the USGS.
