Columbia, SC -
A group of lawmakers will meet in Columbia Tuesday to talk about impeaching the governor. They will discuss whether 37 charges against Governor Mark Sanford are enough to force him out of office.
One of those lawmakers is Summerville Representative Jenny Horne. Horne, the lone woman on the panel, will have a heavy hand in deciding the fate of the governor.
“This is history in the making,” says Horne. “A hundred years from now there will be no question as to what this committee did and it does set a precedent.”
In the coming days Horne and her colleagues will hear testimony over Sanford’s five day hiatus to Argentina back in June, including his alleged use of state planes and money during that time. Her house subcommittee must then provide a report of its findings, and recommend whether or not to move forward with impeachment proceedings.
“I want to make sure I read everything. That I read the law, review the testimony, review the evidence.”
With ust days before she must vote, Horne says she’ll wait to make her decision and take as much time as she can.
“Sitting here today I cannot tell you how I’d vote because quite frankly we have not heard all the proceedings, or reviewed all the documents. We are a work in progress.”
The subcommitte will have until December 7th to make its recommendation.
