Smoaks, SC -
Two men have been charged in an early Saturday morning shooting that left a 30-year-old man dead in Colleton County.
Timothy Kelly, 22, of Smoaks has been charged with murder while 21-year-old Antwan McMillan of Smoaks has been charged with murder and posession of a firearm during a violent crime. 30-year-old Keno Dixon was pronounced dead at the hospital with gunshots to his face and neck.
The shooting happened in Smoaks, about 14 miles northwest of Walterboro.
Investigators say the incident started at a birthday party at a club know as "The Spot." Witnesses say a bunch of people were at the party and everything seemed to be going smoothly.
Police say around 4:30 Saturday morning, witnesses heard multiple rounds of gunfire and saw people standing in the street.
“I've seen a lot of things happen in Colleton County, but this is the first time I’ve seen something like this in Smoaks. Something this close to me and it really hurts,” said Jackie Jenkins, the girlfriend of the victim.
His girlfriend of 14 years believes Dixon was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
“I always knew Keno as the type of person that when trouble broke out, he was trying to get out of the way. I feel that that's what happened last night. He was trying to get out of the way and got bullets. An innocent person got shot down,” said Jenkins.
The father of three is the fourth person in Colleton County to die this month. Chris Murray and his family live down the road from where Saturday morning's shooting happened. They're fearful for their safety.
“The bullet could have very easily gone through the trailer and killed any one of us innocent bystanders,” said Murray.
Neighbors say they worry about someone retaliating after this shooting and bringing more violence to Colleton County.
“I just hope they let the police handle this because one thing will lead to another,” said Jenkins. The Sheriff's Office says they are questioning several people who witnessed the shooting, but so far have not made any arrests.
Investigators say this is not related to the shootings in Walterboro.
