Walterboro, SC - A small community was in mourning Sunday night after burying three of their own. Family members in Walterboro held a funeral for those killed last week in a drive by shooting.
While authorities remain tight lipped about the investigation into the shootings and their connections, a community comes together in the wake of the deaths.
It was a celebration of lives once lived and mourning of lives cut too short. The three caskets lined the end of the Colleton High School gymnasium.
“It’s sad but we have to let go. It’s sad for the family. It’s been a long two weeks,” family friend Elaine White said.
She was among hundreds who lined up to pay their last respects to Charles Kittrell, Christopher Powell and 20-month-old Shaniyah Burden, all gunned down in front of the family home.
Among the crowd, even strangers like Lawrence Gordon, who doesn’t know the Kittrell family traveled from Ravenel to say goodbye.
“You don’t have to have connection. All you have to know is you have a community and you can learn a lot of what happened now. This could happen anywhere. This could happen in your community,” Gordon said.
The small community is trying to heal in the midst of a violent two weeks.
“We’re coming together now. We're starting to have meetings and work together, help each other out and talk with each other,” White said.
It's all in hope the shooting is silenced by the cries.
The stepped up patrols remain in Walterboro as SLED and other state agencies continue to help local law enforcement investigate this case.
A $6,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the shooting deaths.
