Charleston, SC -
It’s been two years since a Mount Pleasant man was murdered. This week the case of Anthony Chiaramonte finally comes to a close.
Christmas day of 2007, Charles Piercy came home from a trip to spend the holiday with his roommate, Anthony Chiaramonte.
“We had never had spent Christmas apart. That was the first Christmas day we spent apart,” said Piercy.
But that day, Piercy came home to a horrific scene.
“I found my roommate. He had been murdered… He had been hit with the VCR and he had been strangled,” said Piercy.
Two days later, Lawrence Pinckney was arrested and charged with murder. Piercy says he had been doing handy work around their house.
“I guess he thought he could trust him and overpowered Tony, took his car and his jewelry and killed him,” said Piercy.
For two years, Piercy wondered when he would see justice.
Monday he did. Pinckney pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.
“I have to say justice is served. It’s not what I wanted, but they did the best they could do,” said Piercy.
Pinckney was also sentenced this week. He'll spend the next 22 years behind bars.
