Mount Pleasant -
Whether it's just a snack or a stop at his favorite fast food joint Devin Keck rarely goes without eating, but beginning next week that's all about to change.
"I'm going to live as an average food stamp recipient by eating only 3 dollars a day," he explained.
For an entire week Devin will only eat as much as $21 can afford; that means no more family steak dinner, instead peanut butter sandwiches, pasta and rice will be the main courses on the menu. The week long challenge - a part of his senior thesis at school.
"I'm excited I'm going to treat it as a learning experience and I want to grow myself as well as raise awareness about hunger in the Lowcountry," Keck said. "With our economy and poor times right now it's definitely a growing problem," he added.
Devin knows several challenges lie ahead especially as the week goes on but he says he's committed to seeing it through.
"As the week goes on I'm definitely going to be running out and have a limited amount of choices I’m not going to be able to make decisions on what I want I'm just going to have to eat what's in the cabinet," he said.
"He really does have a big heart so I'm glad I am proud of him for doing it because it's hard to quit," said his mother Susan Keck.
