Charleston, SC - Candidates running for South Carolina governor agree agribusiness is key to the state's future.
Six of the 10 candidates running for governor appeared Friday at the annual Agribusiness Summit in Charleston.
Republicans Andre Bauer, Henry McMaster and Larry Grooms shared the stage with Democrats Dwight Drake, Vincent Sheheen and Mullins McLeod.
They appeared in a town hall format answering questions from business and agricultural leaders.
The conference was sponsored by the Palmetto Institute, highlighting efforts to make agribusiness and forestry a $50 billion industry in the state by 2020. Experts estimate the industry now means about $34 billion to the South Carolina economy.
