Charleston, SC - Wind and waves whipped the Gulf Coast as Tropical Storm Ida cam ashore Tuesday morning. The messy weather from the storm is making its way into the Lowcountry bringing the threat of beach erosion.
“We can’t do much about the erosion. So, we’ll just have to watch it as we for all storms that come close by,” said Folly Beach Mayor Carl Beckmann.
Beckmann says that the city will not use sandbags to protect the coastline from erosion, but will monitor beach conditions as long as the storm is in the region.
“We take some pictures and do a before and after,” said Beckmann.
Wave heights are between 3-4 feet, but may be 5 feet for Wednesday and Thursday.
All a reminder that hurricane season lasts through the end of the month.
