North Charleston, Sc -
Last month General Motors experienced its first year over year sales increase in 21 months, light vehicle were sales up 5 percent. The figures are reason for Bill Hart to smile. He’s the sales manager at McElveen Chevrolet in Mount Pleasant.
"I think we've seen the worst of it," Hart said.
He says vehicle sales in his shop were up 40 percent in October compared to September. He knows a long road still lies ahead but remains hopeful.
"That's the way we make our living it's extremely exciting," he said.
Local Ford dealers are also sharing in the excitement. Nationally Ford sales were up 3 percent this October compared to last year. David Walters is the President of Jones ford in North Charleston.
"It's not much fun going into a recession but it's a lot of fun coming out of a recession," Walters said.
Walters admits while the signs are promising overall the car industry is still sluggish.
"It's easier to show an increase when you've been in a decrease, it's not as significant as we hope it will be later," he said.
