Georgetown County Sheriff's Investigators arrested 25-year-old Ciderick Jerimiah Cumbee Friday after authorities observed severe injuries on his fiance's 1-year-old daughter. Cumbee was charged with Unlawful Conduct to a Child.
EMS transported the child to the Georgetown Emergency Room for treatment while authorities continued their investigation.
The mother said in a statement to sheriff's deputies that earlier during the day on Friday, Cumbee came to pick up her daughter and took her back to his residence to baby-sit. When the mother came to pick her daughter up, she observed the child crying along with bruises and scrapes on her face and head in addition to numerous injuries on her body. When questioned by the mother, Cumbee denied knowledge of the injuries.
Georgetown County Sheriff's Investigators collected significant evidence from the scene and during the interview with Cumbee that linked him to the abuse.
The child was sent to MUSC for treatment of her injuries. Her condition was stable but needed specialized treatment due to the nature and severity of her injuries. Cumbee was released Sunday on a $50,000.00 surety bond.
