Charleston, SC - US Group, Inc. say they will begin to widen the existing two-lane section on US 17 A in Berkeley County to five lanes.
According to the organization, they will begin work on the US 17-A widening between Carnes Crossroads and Moncks Corner in Berkeley County. The company says work will begin in several weeks.
This project will widen the entire existing two-lane section to five lanes – two travel lanes in both directions and a center turn lane.
Several intersections will be realigned, most notably the Whitesville Road and Black Tom/Gaillard Road intersections. Plans also call for traffic signals to be installed at the realigned Black Tom/Gaillard Road intersection.
U.S. Group say they are presently several months ahead of schedule on its Interstate 26 widening project in North Charleston, and has completed three major highway projects in Berkeley County in recent years – two widening projects on US 17-A, including the I-26 interchange, as well as College Park Road.
