Berkeley County, SC - The Berekeley County Sheriff's Office say a
n 89-year-old Huger man who originally reported that someone had come into his home, attempted to rob him and cut his throat has now recanted that version of events.
Police say on Sept. 27 deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary and aggravated assault on an elderly man, Charlie Green, at a home at Driftwood Lane.
According to investigators, the man was found to have several lacerations in the area of his neck and was quickly transported to a hospital for treatment of his wounds.
When interviewed in the hospital Charlie Green told Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office that he awoke to find a black male standing over him with a knife demanding that he give him money. He said when he told the intruder he didn’t have any money the man “sliced his neck” and ran out of the residence.
After a thorough and extensive investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Green told investigators that he made up the incident and that all injuries to him were self-inflicted.
Green was taken to a local hospital where he was evaluated and has been committed to a mental health facility to receive the necessary treatment for his illness. No charges will be filed against Green.
