Senator Kerry In The Lowcountry
posted 9:28 pm Fri October 12, 2007 - Charleston, SC
Political heavyweights including Senator John Kerry descend on
Charleston.

Kerry spoke at the
College of
Charleston and says
America needs change.
He talked about everything from global warming to Iraq to the threat of world terror.
“I think America is more challenged in the world, less safe if you look at what happened in Iran, Iraq, Hezbollah, Israel..its a more dangerous world Friday than it was on September 11th with more terrorists trying to kill Americans,” Kerry said.
Senator Kerry hopes for a shift in American foreign policy, but more pressing, a shift in policies here at home.
“I think President Bush's veto of Children’s Health Insurance is without adequate explanation.
I don't know how you can talk about family values and then deny children the health insurance they need,” Kerry added.
The bipartisan effort to expand the Children’s Health Insurance Program, SCHIP, failed but Kerry's not giving up.
He believes Congress will pick the fight up again.
But no fight here in South Carolina because the senator says the issues are obvious.
He says creating and maintaining jobs for the middle class is priority number one.
“People who are playing by all the rules, paying taxes, working hard sometimes two jobs and they still can't afford health insurance,” said Kerry.
Senator Kerry calls President Bush's veto of SCHIP short sighted and another slap in the face of the middle class.
He says the government needs to make a fair tax system and create higher paying jobs.
Senator Kerry also says he’s thinking about endorsing a presidential candidate but he’s not sure which one at this time.
