The Charleston Police Department responded to a shooting incident at the corner of Line and Nassau Streets around 8:30 Monday night.
The victim's brother told police they were in the Family Dollar at 478 Meeting Street, when his brother announced he needed to use the restroom and left the store.
That's when the victim says a man came up behind him with a gun and demanded money. The victim said he had no money and the suspect began pulling on his shirt and shot him in the leg.
The brother of the victim heard the gunshot and and saw his brother walking toward him. The brother and a friend, who was with them in the store, picked the victim up and took him to the VA hospital for treatment.
The suspect fled in an unknown direction with the victim's shirt, according to the Charleston Police Department. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20's with short hair, black pants and a white t-shirt. If you have any information you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
