Peace and harmony are what organizers of Charleston’s "Peace One Day" festival hope will ring from the low country to the world.
"I can change stuff here that will spread out around the people around me and it'll spread out to people around them and eventually it'll get there and there will be help," said organizer Beth Wendt.
Recent acts of violence like the bombing of the US Embassy in Yemen highlighting the need for help and change. Organizers say the event is a start.
"On this day actually in the world is to have a day of cease fire where war is stopped for one day where we can get aid in and vaccines,” said Reba Parker, Founder of the Charleston Peace One Day Festival.
For true co-existence to reach every human being many believe the drive must start with young people.
"It's necessary for people of my generation to understand and know that it's a global world out there and we're all interconnected and inter-related," said Abid Javed, a senior at the Academic Magnet High School.
Event organizers say we’ve taken small steps toward peace but still have a way to go.
