Gator hunting season claims another victim. An alligator was found shot to death at a home on Lake Moultrie. Residents say they heard about three gunshots the day before the dead reptile turned up. The property owner says in his 15 years of living there, he's never seen anything like this.
"We've seen alligators out here, but never a dead one like this," Resident Dale Hawkins said.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, Hawkins must drag the gator onto land before it can pick it up.
Gator hunting season runs until the first Saturday in October.
Hunters are supposed to dispose of the alligators on their own.
