The mother of the toddler found dead on Monday spoke out Thursday regarding the death of her son and the arrest of her boyfriend Justin Hillerby.
"I trust that everything was done the way I would have done it if I were home," Jennifer Spoerl said. "I believe the police have been trying to slander his name, my name and my families name. I just want my daughter home safe, so I can continue to live my life peacefully."
This after disturbing information was released in court records Thursday on the death of Jennifer's son, Blaise. The man accused of killing the 22-month-old child, the mother's boyfriend Justin Hillerby, was denied bond. According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, and an affidavit details the abuse Blaise suffered.
Court records say, Hillerby told police he struck the child's head with his knee, then threw the victim on the floor head first.
As the child moaned, the report says Hillerby told Blaise to quote "walk it off."
The violence didn't end there, the affidavit says Hillerby took the child to the bedroom, along the way, the victim could not open his eyes.
The suspect told police, he hit the child's head against the door frame, and once more into the crib.
The reports says Hillerby did not call for help, nor did he check on the child for 12 hours.
Berkeley County coroner Glenn Rhoads says the signs of violence were obvious.
"There was definitely trauma, that's why the investigation was open to start with there was blood in several areas that led officers and the coroner's office to put this case together," Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Rhoads said.
A case that's not over, police say the investigation continues and more charges are possible.
Witnesses in bond court say Hillerby asked the judge if he could attend the child's funeral. The judge said that will not happen.
In regards to the death of her son, Jennifer said "I don't know exactly anything about it, police won't release anything to me."
