Like an A -list celebrity this Kemp’s ridley sea turtle dubbed Little Jetty was more than happy to wave at its adoring fans.
"I like green and I like it on the turtle they're really cute," 8 year old Amelia Cobb said.
But the turtle almost didn't make it, in June of this year it was caught by a fisherman at the Harbor Jetties and the hook became lodged in its throat. Fortunately thanks to live saving surgery Little Jetty is ready to go back home.
It's an accomplishment to get the turtle back in the water to help the conservation efforts and it's great to see the community come together and se there's appreciation for seat turtles and conservation efforts in general," said South Carolina Aquarium’s Staff Veterinarian Dr. Shane Boylan.
Once on the ground instincts took over for Little Jetty, but before he headed out to open waters he received one last helping hand.
"He tried to dig in the sand for a second but again he just wanted to get away from people and get into his native environment and go home," Dr. Boylan said.
"I thought that he was like really happy to go back in the water," Cobb told ABC News 4.
"It's wonderful it just makes living here so much better just knowing we're seeing positive things happen on our coast," Kelly Cobb said.
Kemp’s ridley sea turtles have been on the endangered species list since 1970.
