Overall Folly Beach and the Isle of Palms' beaches stood up well to erosion according to officials at both municipalities. Mayors for both believed the storm would cause serious erosion due to the strong surf and winds. Local beach goers were happy that damages were minimal.
"It's nice to have a beach to still go to," said surfer Peter Kaasa.
Folly Beach had a few signs of erosion. Small chunks were missing beyond the washout, and one area showed signs were water broke through the fence line and pooled up. All in all though officials were thankful.
"I think we weathered this one pretty well," said Mayor Carl Beckman
Isle of Palms had small amounts of erosion near the Wild Dunes area. The same area that recently went through a beach re nourishment. Also erosion took place on the IOP side of Breach Inlet.
"Overall the beach itself held up real well, I'm real proud of that," said Mayor Mike Sottile.
Along with the only minimal erosion both Mayors were happy with how residents prepared for Hanna. They called it a good "dress rehearsal" for anything else Mother Nature tosses our way.
