(AP) -- Horry County will equip some of its police officers with noise meters to better enforce the county noise ordinance.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the move is not aimed at the motorcycle rallies held on the Grand Strand each spring.

Officials say it's just to deal with the ongoing growth in the area.

Police in Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach already use such meters.

Horry County Public Safety Director Paul Whitten says the meters will be used to help determine if the current noise ordinance needs to be changed.
