The Coast Guard sent out a notice today to inform boaters to take extra precautions for safety as Tropical Storm Fay continues to move north.
“We make sure everything is tied up and weatherproof. Lots of times we'll pull something over the stern of the boats to protect from water inside of the boats," said Whitney Miles from Charleston City Marina.
Heavy rain is currently the main threat from Tropical Storm Kay and Miles says they are ready to handle excessive rainfall. If boats take on too much water, they can use a hose-like device to pump the water out.
Experts say the safest place to keep your boat during the storm is on the dock.
