(AP) -- Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter says two officers accused of using excessive force in the arrest of a University of South Carolina football player have been suspended without pay. Officers David Beddingfield Junior and Roger Gilland were indicted last week on a charge of misconduct in office. Carter said yesterday the suspensions are a standard procedure. The officers were indicted in the arrest in March of Gamecocks offensive lineman Kevin Young, who was charged with fighting and resisting arrest. The charges were later dropped.
