Berkeley County

Monday, August 18th is the first day of school for Berkeley County!

Registration

Birth Certificate (must be 5 by Sept. 1 ): Social Security Number; SC Immunization Form; Proof of Residency (tax bill/utility bill)

What Time do Schools Start?

Most elementary schools start between 7:20 and 8 a.m., and dismiss between 2:00 p.m. and 3:10 p.m.

Middle schools start between 7:50 and 8:40 a.m., and dismiss between 3:15 and 3:50 p.m. High schools start between 7:20 and 7:55 a.m., and dismiss between 2:40 and 2:55 p.m.

How do I register my child? 

You will need a birth certificate, an up-to-date certificate of immunization, and two forms that prove residency.

Dorchester District Two

Thursday, August 21st is the first day of school for Dorchester Districts Two & Four!

Registration:

NEW STUDENTS registering in Dorchester School District Two for the first time should present the following documents:

  • South Carolina Immunization Form
  • Birth Certificate
  • If available, withdrawal papers from previous school/report card
  • Proof of Residency in parent’s/guardian’s name in form of current electric bill and an additional document verifying address.

RETURNING STUDENTS must provide current electric bill in parent/guardian’s name and one additional document verifying address. All students must remit a $20 registration fee. Guardianship questions or new student registration questions should be directed to Lessie Penn at (843)832-7880.

Immunization:

Pursuant to Regulation 61-8, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has declared the schedule of required vaccinations, screenings, and immunizations necessary for a child to be admitted to any public, private, or parochial schools, grades kindergarten through twelve (K-12), or child development program under the control of the State Department of Education. All required immunizations must be documented on a single South Carolina certificate of Immunization form, DHEC 1148. For more information, contact your child’s school or for additional information call Dorchester County Heath Department (843) 832-0041.

MEDICATIONS: For students requiring medication during the school day, a parent/legal guardian must deliver the medication to the school nurse in the current prescription bottle properly labeled by a registered pharmacist and accompanied by a completed Dorchester School District Two Medication Permission Form (physician & parent/guardian signatures required). See Parent-Student Handbook for full details or contact the school nurse.

Dress Code "What Not to Wear":

  • Sunglasses (unless they are RX sunglasses)
  • Hats, head stockings, sweatbands, and bandannas
  • Tank, halter, tube, bathing suit, spaghetti string, midriff or see-through tops
  • Sagging pants (pants must be worn at the natural waistline and undergarments must be completely covered), tennis or mini-skirts
  • Apparel promoting obscene, vulgar, racial, ethnic, sexual, or religious prejudices, gang-related groups, alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs of any kind.
  • The standard for wearing shorts or dresses/skirts is that when standing with arms hanging to the side, the area on the leg where finger tips touch should be the hemline of the shorts or dress/skirt.

Breakfast and lunch are available for all students.  Meals are prepared fresh on site in lunchroom kitchens at schools throughout the district each day.  Free and reduced meal applications are available throughout the year in all schools.  Contact Patricia J. Truett if you need furthur assistance at 843-563-5919. Dorchester District Four has a strict attendance policy on based on state law.  Non-compliance with the policy may result in non-promotion or non-credit for students with 10 or more unexcused absences (5 in one semester course).  Within three days of returning to school, the student must present a written excuse explaining the absence.  The excuse should be signed by a parent/guardian and accompanied, if applicable, by a doctor's statement.
