The parade of officers, family and friends showing just how big of an impact Deputy Dennis Compton made on his agency and in his community.
"The worst is behind us, right now we just need to concentrate on keeping his memory alive," said Compton's cousin, Cpl. Anthony Buchanan.
Compton was killed in the line of duty this week. Today those in attendance waved goodbye to a man who was no stranger to saying hello.
"He tried to make everyone laugh. Even if he didn't know you he'd say something to make you laugh and grin," Buchanan said.
The community and the sheriff's office must now push forward never forgetting what's been left behind.
"We lost a fine officer, a fine member of the community that gave his life to ensure our safety," said Kathy Dixon who attended the service.
Deputy Compton leaves behind his wife and 4 children.
