Trident Health System announced Friday its plans to build a new 50-bed hospital in Berkeley County.
The three-story facility will be located on property adjacent to the current Moncks Corner Medical Center, another facility run by Trident Health Center which Trident Health System.
The new Berkeley Medical Center will provide general acute care hospital services, including medical / surgical, obstretric and intensive care beds, an emergency department and various outpatient services. The campus will also feature office space for physicians.
Trident Medical Center was built in 1973 to serve residents of North Charleston, and Berkeley and Dorchester counties. In 1989, Summerville Medical Center opened as an outpatient facility before evolving 94-four bed acute care hospital in 1993.
