Police Arrest Person of Interest in Fatal Shooting of Colleton County Deputy

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Department arrested a man this evening in the Indian Springs Subdivision in Summerville, describing him as a person of interest in the case of the fatal shooting death of Colleton County Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Compton.
Compton was found dead in a home early Wednesday morning in the town of Smoaks.
Police say he was responding to an alarm call.
Nearly 100 members of local law enforcement took part in a massive manhunt throughout the day. Compton was described as a man who loved his family and his job. He was 39.
