Hot temperatures have some air conditioners working overtime, but a little maintenance could save you a little money.
Just like your car takes a little longer to cool off in this heat, the same goes for your home. Also, the same as your car needs tune ups, so does your A/C.
"It's hot, hot and I hope our friend outside gets this thing done soon," said 90-year-old John McNeely of Mount Pleasant.
Soon can't come soon enough for McNeely whose A/C stopped working overnight.
"Terrible. It's awful and nobody likes it," said McNeely.
"It's probably around 150 degrees. It's pretty hot. I wouldn't want to spend too much time," said Technician Steve Kenstler as he crawls through un-conditioned attic space pinpointing the problem.
This visit cost close to $800 because the unit needed a new fan motor as well as other repairs done.
"It's never fun to get a costly bill. A lot of times folks tend to think A/C is sort of part of their house and that it's always going to be there," said Kenstler.
While repairs can buy time, Kenstler says units typically last between 10 and 15 years.
"I can take the heat, but my wife doesn't take it quite as well," said McNeely who says he'll pay whatever the price to keep cool.
If you're worried about your bill on hot days like today, technicians say it's still best to leave it set at a comfortable temp all day, as opposed to turning it up during the day and making it work overtime to cool down at night.
