Charleston, SC - Authorities say a woman that was shot by a police officer on July 10 has died.
The coroner's office says Tiraneka Jenkins died Tuesday at MUSC. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday and SLED is investigating.
Investigators say that the shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Friday and involved a Charleston police officer.
According to police, the officer was responding to a 911 call about a domestic dispute at a Spring Street business. Officers were sent to Frankie’s Café at 114 Spring Street in reference to that 911 call.
A preliminary investigation by police revealed that officers arrived at the scene where one of the individuals involved in the domestic dispute was armed with a handgun.
Detectives say the suspect was ordered to drop the weapon and the suspect did not comply and the officer fired his gun and the suspect was hit.
The suspect was transported to MUSC and police say no one else was injured during the incident.
Charleston Police requested SLED to investigate the incident which is normal procedure during officer involved shootings, authorities say.
The investigation continues.
