Authorities say they nabbed three of the inmates that escaped from the Charleston County Detention Center Saturday. According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, David Speight, David Evans, and Julius Barfield were captured Monday.
Officials say Speight was caught outside of a restaurant in West Ashley. Evans was found at a home in North Charleston. In an interesting twist officials say Evans' ex-wife was caught with Speight. She was arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive. Both men are now charged with escape. That can carry a penalty of up to 10 years.
David Speight and David Evans reportedly escaped sometime around 10:30 Saturday night. They were working in the Detention Center kitchen when they got away. Officials did not elaborate on how they escaped but did say the fault lies with the Detention Center personnel. The two men were awaiting trial for burglary charges.
Barfield was caught at 9:00 p.m. Monday night at an apartment complex in Goose Creek. North Charleston police received a tip on his location. Barfield was taken into custody without incident.
