Authorities are now looking for the person who ran over a child, and then sped away from the scene.
It happened on Wednesday night around 10 o'clock off of Ladson and Lantern Drive near Gilligans restaurant.
The Highway patrol says the 9-year-old boy was crossing the street when he got hit.
He was sent to Summerville Medical Center where he later died.
Investigators have been out here all day long reconstructing the scene while Tyler Capers family sits just yards away. Tyler Capers family sits at their home trying to understand what happened last night. "I left him in his room and I guess when I went to sleep he just left," said Lucy Capers, Tyler's mother. They don't know where he was going or why, and they can't begin to understand how the person who hit hom, simply drove away. "It's not just one life that's affected here, the family, the community, every life that this little boy touched is affected," SC Highway Patrolman Lance Corporal Bob Beres said. "We just want somebody to come forward. Let's get the facts and this family the answers they need." "I loved that boy with all my heart. I want him back right now. They gotta do the right thing, please do the right thing and turn them in," Tyler's father, Freddie Capers said. Tyler is his dad's number one fan, known for being outgoing, energetic and a leader. He was only 9-years-old, but his parents say he was going on 29, saying he was an old soul and that soul is what keeps them going. "I'm just going to always hope my son is ok, it was just his time to go," Lucy Capers said.
Authorities are now looking for two vehicles that are possibly involved in the incident.
Those vehicles include a dark colored Dodge Neon and a GMC Jimmy SUV with possible front end damage. The vehicles were last seen headed toward Dorchester Rd.
