(AP) -- Authorities say bond has been set for a South Carolina mother charged with murdering her 7-year-old son after she claimed a carjacker had smothered the child.
Amanda Raegan Smith remained in jail today and her bond was set at $250,000.
It was not immediately clear if Smith had an attorney. A woman who answered the phone at the jail said she couldn't release any information, and a call to prosecutors was not immediately returned.
Last August, Smith told authorities that a knife-wielding carjacker forced her to drive to a secluded, wooded area in Greenville. Once there, she said the carjacker locked the car doors and pressed a pillow to her son's face.
Authorities said autopsy results showed the boy died of asphyxia due to neck compression.
