Folly, SC - Officials say a sea turtle’s nest was tampered with late Monday night on Folly Beach.
A human is believed to be responsible for opening and removing 51 sea turtle eggs from Nest 11 at 1607 East Ashley late Monday, June 29, according to Folly Beach Mayor Carol Beckmann.
The eggs that were removed from the nest as well as the ones exposed have little hope of developing, officials said.
Volunteers have spoken to nearby residents and have asked everyone to keep a watchful eye on the area, Mayor Beckmann said.
The Department of Natural Resources has been contacted and is helping with the incident.
There have been other cases of vandalism and Folly Beach is doing their best to protect the nest, Mayor Beckmann said.
