Sullivans Island, SC - ABC News 4 spoke with several of the residents on Sullivan’s Island, most of them still in shock over the governors admitted affair, but they’re now focusing on Sanford’s family.
It was a bombshell so destructive it rocked more than the State's capitol.
“I’m still not believing it’s true,” Collen Moquin said.
Governor Sanford's admitted affair and the fallout is rippling all the way to Sullivan's Island.
“I feel sorry for his wife and his boys. That’s really tough,” Suzan Marby said.
This scandal is keeping his neighbors talking.
“Very shocking, I believe in family values and he’s a good family man and has a great wife and children,” Moquin said.
Many say their faith in the state's highest leader broken.
“I think it’s hard to have a Governor like that. You won’t be able to trust him,” Moquin said. “If he lies to his family which is the most important part, as far as an official, you really can’t trust him.”
Infidelity aside voters are concerned about what Sanford's actions mean for the state.
“To be flying around and taking taxpayers money for that is uncalled for,” Moquin said.
“So many people are crunching down on budgets because of the economy and then you learn there goes your hard earned money going on a vacation. That’s horrible,” Casey Craft said.
With a governor disgraced and his family trying to heal, his neighbors are left wondering.
