West Ashley, SC - Charleston Police are investigating a drowning in West Ashley near the North Bridge.
Two men were crabbing on the Ashley River near the North Bridge when one noticed the other was missing. He flagged down another driver and called police, according to police.
A nearby boater started looking for the man and found his body in the middle of the river, they said.
The man who drowned is identified as Barry Benton, 40, of Cross, SC, the Charleston County Coroner said.
The autopsy shows the death was caused by drowning, the coroner said.
