First losing in the finals, and then losing every second of his playing time, the 35-year-old tried to keep things in perspective and maintain his reputation as a consummate professional.
"4 games away from a title, I didn’t want to rock the boat by starting controversy, but it was definitely tough to get us there and not get a chance to participate,” Johnson said.
But don't think AJ is down and out. There’s an option for one more year on his contract and Johnson has no plans to disappear on the Magic.
"With economy and stuff, I’m 35-years-old and a point guard. Not a big contract to be gotten, so I’m going to opt in and be with the Magic for the time to come," Johnson said.
Always well-grounded, AJ said he'll keep playing for that coveted ring. He's playing for his new son, playing for the campers, and playing because it's what he still loves to do.
"I’m going to play as long as possible, financially the best move to make. [I’m] going to play as long as the body holds up. If I can squeak in 16, 17, 18 years out of my legs I’m going to do that. But as far as keeping up with those young guys in the rotation, I’m not sure how long I can keep up with that," explained Johnson.
Knowing age is not a number, but how you feel, Charleston's own is still looking, and feeling, pretty good.
