Clemson, SC - A rare, 375 million-year-old fossil specimen that scientists say shows the evolution of fish to land animals is on display at a South Carolina university's museum.
The fossil is on display Wednesday through Saturday each week at the Bob Campbell Geology Museum at Clemson University through July 8. It's on loan from the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
The skeletons show features seen in fish ancestors like scales and fins for swimming. But it also has limb bones, a neck and large ribs similar to those seen in early amphibians.
The Clemson museum is the only facility outside of Chicago and Philadelphia to have the rare specimen on display.
