Walterboro, SC - A mother of four shot to death through the window of her Walterboro home, but police say this isn't the first time that house has been under fire.
Investigators said around 11:30 p.m. someone approached the house and fired a 12-gauge shotgun into one of the bedroom windows.
This shooting is the second outside this house since November.
Walterboro is a small town that has been rattled by gunfire and a family shattered by violence.
"We were best friends. We grew up together. We were like cousins, raised up like sisters," Tara Brown, the victim's cousin, said.
Adela Pinckney, 38, slept in her bed with her 11-year-old son by her side. That's when investigators said someone approached her bedroom window with a shot gun. The single shot blasted at least nine holes through the glass, stricking Pickney in the head.
"The baby boy said mom would not wake up. When he rolled her over he said he saw nothing but blood coming from her head," Jaquetta Glover, another cousin, said.
Pinckney's three other children, including her 21-year-old son, were all at home when the shots rang out.
Family members are questioning why she would be victimized.
"That's what we are trying to figure out, why would anybody want to hurt her because she's not the kind of person anyone would make an enemy toward," Glover said.
Sheriff deputies said they're investigating underlying issues. They said the type of weapon used implies a vicious attack.
"From the direction and maybe the pattern, it appears that part of the home was targeted, aimed at," Lt. Allen Inabinett said.
"It's just these days, nobody cherishes no one's life. It's just like whatever is whatever," Brown said.
Pinckney's family piecing together what they say feels like a nightmare and praying the shooter will come forward.
The home was also hit in a drive-by shooting back in November.
Investigators are trying to determine if the two are related. If you have any information, you are asked to contact the Colleton County Sheriffs Department or Crimestoppers at 554-1111.
