Columbia, SC - Governor Mark Sanford
(web | news) says he will not run for president in 2012, but his critics are saying the exact opposite.
The critics are saying Gov. Sanford’s objection to use the $700 million stimulus fund is part of his plan to run for president in three years.
Gov. Sanford commented on this, telling ABC News 4 this is not the case.
"If ever there was a misguided way of trying to create a run for some presidential races as detractors have suggested, this would be it,” Gov. Sanford said. "If you look at the 15 years that I've been involved in politics, no one said I was running for president when I turned down federal money back when I was representing this congressional district."
Yesterday, Sanford did sign a request for $700 million dollars in stimulus cash after he was ordered to by the state supreme court.
That money will mostly go to the state's schools and colleges over the next two years.
