Air seeping out of smalls holes and cracks or openings in your home could be costing you precious cold air this summer, and more importantly could be costing you cold hard cash.
Technician's with Smoak's Comfort Control recommend doing routine checks to make sure all the seals are well maintained. That also goes for your A/C unit. It should be maintained and working properly to ensure high efficiency.
"Once you have a demand on your air conditioning system, a lot of people didn't know it didn't work properly until the temperature reaches 90 and above," said William Smoak who own's Smoak's Comfort Control.
Today James Island resident Martin Gipe had some routine maintenance done on his air unit. He admits he could do a better job of sealing up his own home to keep that conditioned air in.
"I could probably use some additional insulation," he said.
On the inside, things were sealed up pretty tight at his home. Windows did not leak, the front door had stripping on the bottom and the attic's air was circulated. These are three areas technicians say are common places that air can seep out.
"The heat tries to find a way from the hot area to the cold area," Smoak said.
