A new website is shaking up the online community. Jim Bob’s List may give popular online advertising website Craigs List a run for its money.
“Jim Bob is kind of the epitome of a good old boy, a country boy kind of name,“ Mark Tims, Founder of JimBobsList said.
Timms says he created the site to serve rural communities, a group left out by Craigslist. He then chose what he considers a suitable name.
“It's a perfect name for rural communities,” Timms, a South Carolina native who actually has a relative named Jim Bob, said.
He came up with the idea for the site three months ago. That was before racy adds on Craigslist sparked a lot of controversy and a lawsuit filed by South Carolina's Attorney General Henry McMaster. Those controversial ads are something you won't see on JimBobsList.
“When I went to make the site, my objective was to make it a rural, family friendly site,” Timms said.
According to Timms, not including the often-profitable category is a personal decision.
“There's no legislation now to govern any thing that people can and cannot do on the internet, but it's really left up to the individual to have morals," he said.
His morals are what he considers his guiding light. For rural communities across America, theirs will be Jim Bob at
www.jimbobslist.com. In the site’s first ten days in business, there were more than 150,000 visitors.
