Mount Pleasant, SC - She spins, climbs, and explore. And 8-year-old Caroline Hoy shows us why the new big toy is so cool, literally.
"It's a mister and you can cool off in the summer with it," Caroline said.
Caroline’s dad, the park manager for the last 26 years, was sad to see the old big toy go, but says the new interactive playground has exceeded his expectations.
"We've had overwhelming positive atmosphere towards the new playground. All of our customers are just thrilled with the playground,” Jim Hoy said. “The children are just blown away with it. They come here and they just run around from unit to unit trying to do everything as fast as they can."
The landscape architects, armed with close to $500,000 in taxpayer money had a field day designing the one-of-a-kind playground with some equipment new to the Lowcountry.
"Is pretty unusual and its not exactly obvious how to play with the equipment, there are a lot of items out there that are new to kids and they'll have to practice to get good at it," Caremon Clements with Seamon Whiteside and Associates said.
There are even signs at the new Big Toy to show you which area your child should go in depending on their age.
And parents say they’re fans of the springy recycled groundcover.
"If you guys can feel it, it's soft. It's great for her starting to run and walk and stuff like that compared to the basic woodchips," Jason Behrens said.
A favorite spot for birthday parties since the 80’s and Big Toy is likely to see a big surge.
Caroline is already planning her ninth birthday.
"But this year I'm going to have it here again," Caroline said.
