An ugly, wet start to Mother's Day as gusty winds and rain battered the Low country last night and this morning. Downed tree limbs, power outages and blocked roads were just a few of the incidents reported today. James Island resident Eddy Stubbs and his family were awoken this morning to the loud noise of a tree falling on their home.
"My little boy was sleeping on the couch and if that hadn't hit the chimney it could have come through where he was sleeping," he said.
The tree likely caused at least a 1000 dollars worth of damage, but Stubbs is just happy that everyone was OK.
"It was a rude awakening for Mother's Day but I think we got by pretty good," he told ABC News 4.
Other homes also saw similar damages, but despite that Charleston County officials are not reporting any serious injuries.
