The price of manure is going up which is starting to hurt local farmers. Those who sell it say the prices have gone up due to increased fuel and transportation costs. It's a trend that could continue.
"You try to cut any cost you can without hurting your crop," said Farmer Pete Ambrose.
Ambrose recently switched to chicken manure in part because of the rising costs of commercial fertilizer. It's gone up four times over the last year. He says chicken manure, while still less expensive, may continue increasing in cost. Over the past year it's doubled from $500 per truckload to $1,000. When asked how this could affect his crops, Ambrose had this to say.
"I may have to raise my prices."
Something that could raise a big stink from his customers.
