A James Island softball coach accused of fondling a student may soon get out of jail. Today a judge reduced Rohan Lewis' bond to $25,000. It had been $100,000.
The victim's father who was in court this morning, fighting to keep Rohan locked up, but then ended up pleased with the judge’s decision.
"We horsed around a lot and it just got out of hand that particular day,” said Rohan in bond court last month.
In April, Lewis explained his side to a bond judge. Today in court, with the risk of seeing Lewis on the street, the victim’s father explained his own side.
"There's nothing that says he hits the street tomorrow morning, that he wouldn't be gone tomorrow night, not a wife, not a child, not a job, nothing," the victims father explained to the judge.
The 15-year-old girl’s father says his daughter is living in fear.
"She's in fear, her trust has been violated. She’s scared to death, if he gets out, he’s going to hurt her," said the victim’s father.
After the testimonies, the judge decided on a $25,000 bond.
But it’s not that simple. Lewis will be under electronic monitoring, 24-house arrest, no contact with the victim, will not be allowed within 500 yards of a school, cannot have any unsupervised interaction with children, and must undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
"Conditions are harder, a lot harder to abide by then just finding the money to get out on a $100,000 bond. I’ve just made it very tough," said Judge James Gosnell, Jr.
What the victim's father hopes is tough enough to keep him away from his daughter for good.
Lewis moved to the Charleston area in 2002 and had volunteered at the school on James Island for three years.
