(AP) -- The South Carolina House has approved a $7 billion spending plan after agreeing to many of the budget cuts adopted by the Senate last month.
The amended budget now heads to a conference committee where the Senate and House will work out differences.
House Minority Leader Harry Ott said Thursday that Democrats had a victory in halting a proposal to increase spending for college research projects by cutting $10 million from K-5 education programs.
The Senate didn't even wait for the House's final action on the bill before voting to reject that chamber's changes and send the bill to a conference committee.
