The father of a wounded highway patrolman speaks out. Corporal Quincy Mitch brown is recovering tonight after being shot during a routine traffic stop in Orangeburg. Brown hit twice in the arm and once in his bullet proof vest.
Mitchell Brown, the officer father, says this incident shows the dangers highway patrol officers face everyday and the controversial videos showing trooper misconduct don't tell the whole story.
These images have been making headlines for weeks. Highway patrol officers under fire for their actions in the field. But Mitchell Brown says there is more here than meets the eye.
“When they show these guys getting mistreated they don't show what led up to that,” said Mitchell Brown.
Brown says the public is getting the wrong idea about law enforcement.
“When that happens you see a flash, bad cops, they are just doing their job trying to get home alive,” said Mitchell Brown.
His son, Highway Patrolman Quincy Brown almost didn't make it home. On Sunday, Brown stopped a car with three men inside, one of the suspects opened fire. Brown took two in the arm and another bullet hit his vest.
“Without the vest he would be gone,” said Mitchell Brown.
Mitchell Brown says he knows his son's job is dangerous. He simply wants people to understand that despite what you've seen and read, the majority of officers are committed to serving and protecting.
Patrolman Quincy Brown has been on the job for eight years, he has been released from the hospital.
The three men involved in the case are charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, but authorities say the suspect, Anthony Donnell Glover was the only one who actually shot at the officer.
