Senator Barrack Obama's candidacy has inspired others to seek public office.
Clay Middleton and Dwayne Green come from completely different backgrounds but they've managed to arrive on the same political page.
“I grew up in Bayside Manor and folks say nothing good can come from Bayside Manor and I've been proving them wrong ever since,” Clay Middleton told supporters Wednesday.
Middleton, 26, wants to represent
“People get sick, they take the medicine for the rest of their lives, but if you could get regular check ups to prevent those things, that will go a long way,” Middleton said.
“I'm a student of the law, studied law and public policy, majored in politics in college and interned for Senator Hollings,” Attorney Dwayne Green said.
Green is a product of an Ivy League education, believes his background will make him an effective senator.
“I saw where good legislation can do a whole lot to move a community forward,” Green said.
Green and Middleton represent a new younger breed of politicians,
“We see a new wave of leaders that aren't content to earn a living and live in a gated community. They want to help contribute,” according to Green.
“This is a great year for democrats across the country especially my generation,” Middleton said.
Middleton is running against City Councilman Wendell Gaillard and Maurice Washington. Green is trying to unseat incumbent Senator Robert Ford.
The primary is on June 10.
