The second part of a report to be released on the Sofa Super Store fire, is being held by the city until federal investigations are complete, as stated in a press release Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. announced Friday that the phase two report of the city's fire review team, which was due out in mid-May, has been completed,
As stated in the release, the fire review team’s report is designed to be an analysis that takes into account the findings and recommendations of all the other official agencies and organizations that are involved in investigating the Sofa Super Store fire.
These investigations include those of the federal National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Those reports, as of today, are incomplete. The NIOSH Report had been expected to also be ready by mid-May, but it is not yet ready for release.
"We want to leave no stone unturned as we investigate this terrible tragedy. We will take the time to make sure that we have the most complete and accurate report possible, and not attempt to rush a report out before all the information that our Fire Review Team can analyze is available," Mayor Riley said.
The fire review team was assembled after the June 18 tragedy at the Sofa Super Store. In October, 2007 the team released to the city their phase one report, which made recommendations based on best practices of the fire service.
The phase two report will be an analysis of the Sofa Super Store fire that takes into account the reports from the various agencies investigating the fire and will compile that information into one comprehensive report.
