Around 10:30 last night officials with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office say they were called to a stabbing incident near Lincolnshire Drive. When they arrived they said they were met by a man who had a knife who continued approaching them and refused to stop. The deputies then used deadly force. Family members say the victim was 58-year-old Luke Gamble.
"He was a quiet person, he stayed at home and walked the neighborhood," said Gamble's niece Debra Grant.
Gamble's family is questioning why authorities had to use deadly force.
"We just feel like the whole thing could have been avoided, the outcome could have been avoided. He could have been tased or shot in the leg just to restrain him, they didn't have to kill him," she said.
Another family member is frustrated at the lack of communication being offered by law enforcement.
"We're just trying to overcome it day by day," he says.
This case has been turned over to SLED. Officials tell ABC they are conducting an open investigation but would not comment any further. We've learned the other man involved in the original stabbing was taken to the hospital in serious condition. No word yet on what caused the original argument.
